Question Description
DQ1: Using this weeks online learning materials, YouTube, or GMC Library’s Films on Demand, choose a speech to critique. Use what you have learned from this course and consider the following elements in your speech: use of visual aids, supporting materials, effectively conveying overall message, delivery, establishing a connection with the audience, organization, introduction, conclusion, language, and style.
DQ2: Listening is defined as the conscious act of recognizing, understanding, and accurately interpreting the messages communicated by others. Your text discusses selective listening and active listening. Consider situations where you were the listener–watching speeches in this course, listening to lectures in another course, listening to politicians speak. Can you recall a time when selective listening or barriers to active listening prevented you from hearing the message? What are some ways to overcome this? How can a speaker be mindful of these things and make the task of listening easier for their audience?
