Students must develop an infographic based on the MCH topic selected. Infographics are an innovative and engaging method of visually communicating information in a colorful and concise manner. Evidence suggests that the representation of information in graphic format enhances our understanding and ability to make decisions. Therefore, we ask our students to learn about the MCH problem chosen and transmit that information using an infographic. Parts of the infographic may include: (1) What is the problem? (Define and explain its significance as a public health problem); 2) How big is the problem (e.g., key statistics, overall trends, costs)? 3) Who does it affect the most? and 4) Why is this problem important to MCH?
HOW TO CREATE AN INFOGRAPHIC: Its important to disseminate information to all audiences in a clear manner. Infographics are the communication tools in a digital era. They are easy and fun to make. As audiences, students must think of the general public in their communities. However, depending on the nature of the topic or the field of Maternal and Child Health, students may identify other appropriate persons as the audience for the infographic (e.g. healthcare professionals, policy makers), depending on the nature of the topic selected. Students do not need to address the entire issue selected, but present the salient issues for the problem chosen.
