This case study will serve as the basis for this group discussion. The case is designed to place students in the role of an operational decision maker in the presence of a major supply chain disruption in a global supply chain with multiple supplier tiers. The impact of international culture, the multitude of stakeholders, and the importance of effective communications are addressed.
In your initial discussion post, provide insight that will add value to the topics addressed in the case. Rather than focus on post-disaster issues and challenges, you are asked to take more of a lessons learned approach to help Hondas supply chain managers better prepare for potential supply chain disruptions.
In particular, what did Hondas supply chain managers do right and what did they do wrong prior to the 2011 tsunami? Be sure to address the global dispersion of their supply chain and its cultural diversity, as well as relevant costs and other factors that play a role.
