Dr. Scott DeRue (leadership scholar) and Dr. Carol Dweck (developmental psychologist) both emphasize the importance of maintaining a growth mindset—a focus on learning and developing in performance situations (e.g., sports activities and games, classroom and work activities, negotiation situations). However, individuals with a fixed mindset focus on proving their ability in performance situations. They avoid new and challenging situations where they might demonstrate low ability.
How do you think your mindset affects your development as a leader? What are some practical things you can do to ensure you walk into every achievement situation with the right mindset?
